I come from Manila, Philippines, and have lived here my whole life. When it was time to go to college, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and study abroad. I hope to gain experience and learn about how business is conducted in different parts of the world. Then eventually return to the Philippines to work in the family business or venture out to start my own company.
My parents have always been my inspiration and I’ve become like them in some ways. I’ve become as ambitious as my dad and as analytical as my mom. But, I also differ from them. I’m not as traditional nor superstitious as my dad, and unlike my mom, I’m very indecisive.
I have developed my own expectations for myself and try my best to meet those expectations. My parents have never forced me towards a certain path. They have always let me decide what I want to do and have supported me in any way they can.
A person that serves as a model for me is Shonda Rhimes. Through her hard work and dedication, she was able to bring more diversity to her TV shows.
I'm like pandas because they spend most of their days eating and sleeping. But more than that, I feel a special connection with them because they are independent, calm, and caring.

I liked your animal choice. I also an animal that likes to sleep and eat: the koala. I found your difference with your dad pretty relatable: always have to do weird actions for good luck or getting rid of bad luck.

DeleteHi Kelly! I admire that you were able to step out of your comfort zone and reach out internationally. I transferred my last year of high school from California to Switzerland. Probably not as big of a change, but integrating into any new culture has its challenges.
ReplyDeleteI identify with the personality traits of ambitious and analytical a lot. I'm also very indecisive. It makes me wonder if the two are related; maybe we over analyze everything which makes it harder to make decisions. We're also both aquarians so maybe that has something to do with it... if you subscribe to those ideas.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly! Happy to see another Virgo in the class! I really liked hearing about why you feel that connect to pandas. I can definitely relate to the eating and sleeping part.
ReplyDeleteHey Kelly! I enjoyed reading your post and getting to know you better! I am also an international student. It might be a little daunting at first, but you’ll learn so much from living in a different environment and meet incredible people along the way. Enjoy your time at USC!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, I really like your post. I actually feel the same way as you as you shared the experience planting sunflowers. My tulip also died few days later I bought them. Maybe we both don't have green thumb but hope that doesn't take away our passion for growing something alive.
ReplyDeleteHello Kelly. I really liked reading how family oriented you are. Your parents seem really supportive and I think it is sweet that you want to work in the family business as well. I am sure your parents are so proud.
